Rare Armor Bronze Company End Of The Trail Native American Indian Lamp C 1915
RARE ARMOR BRONZE COMPANY END OF THE TRAIL NATIVE AMERICAN INDIAN TABLE LAMP – CIRCA 1915. Measures approximately 12″ high to top of socket and 15 ¼” high to top of light bulb. Measures approximately 6 ½” wide by 3 ¾” deep. Original felt on the underside along with the orignal’Armor Bronze’ label. The label is signed’The S. The back side of the base is marked with a’C’ or an’O’ inside a shield. The front of the base is marked with what appears to be a’T’ presumably for’Tarrant. But it is possibly only a dent – see photo number 10. The only exceptions are that the harp for the shade is missing (see last photo) and the post for the lamp is slight bent (but should be an easy fix). From the late 1890’s, Armor Bronze was known as National Metalizing Company, NYC. The company adopted the name Armor Bronze as their trade name, and remained in NYC until the mid 1930s. In 1934, they moved to Taunton, MA, and in 1946, changed their name to Armor Bronze & Silver Company. By 1950, they had phased out all. This is for an Antique 19th Century Oil Lamp that is cast brass. The oil lamp has a significant role in the Hindu Religion and in their homes and temples. This is called a single wick lamp used for worship in the family home. These would be lit using ghee / oil in the morning / using a wick of cotton. It is believed the light from the lamp removes darkness and the burning light helps in the gaining of knowledge. The light also allows the worshipper to view their god as it is often placed along an image of their deity. Some people also think the oil represents negative energy and the wick represents ones ego. So when the lamp is lit the ego and the negative spirits are then removed from ones soul. This piece is highly decorated with figures of Cobra snakes, men with Indian elephant style masks, men holding basket of food, small dogs and swirled type coins on the edges. The process to make these types of lamps is quite involved and very time consuming and a true art form. There are videos on the web that show the process and are interesting to watch. This piece measures: 12 3/4 inches tall x 7.5 inches wide x 5.5 inches deep. I may or may not know details but do spend time researching information to provide details the best I can and to pass along fair prices.
