This piece is beautifully handmade, and hand painted. It came from the estate of its single owner. This item was sourced in France, however, it was handcrafted by the artisans in Rajasthani, India. These handmade, wooden horse figurines serve as mementos of the horses used by grooms in Indian wedding celebrations. During a celebratory wedding procession know as a Baraat, the groom travels atop a horse, or Ghodi, which family members adorn with ornate embellishments to match the groom. According to its original owner, this item dates to the 1920s. Considering its age, it is in wonderful antique condition. You can see the join lines of the pieces where the head, legs, body, and tail have come together. These areas are fully intact, and the piece is solid. There is only one apparent chip which is on one of the ears. The paint work is done in a beautiful combination of colors which includes black, gold, orange, red, green, white and off white. The painted finish has faded and chipped in areas, and it appears that some touch ups have been made. Overall, the detail and its aged appearance has created a wonderful patina.
