Rare Antique Great Lakes Native Anishinaabe Tribal Wood Burl Ball Head War Club

DESCRIPTION: This is an Antique Probably Great Lakes/Eastern Woodlands Native American Burl Wood Ball Headed War Club. We have consulted with several more knowledgable people and the consensus points to this being an Antique genuine Native American War Club from the Great Lakes Area, or Anishinaabe Tribal Peoples such as Ojibwa. However, feel free to do your own research as we are not experts in this area. Sourced in Fort Wayne, Indiana. The body and burl ball are one piece and appear to be maple, and I can see natural wood striping (like maple) along the upper handle. There are 2 larger 5 pointed stars- one with narrow tool marks that appear burned in. The other large star (opposite side) is simple lines that also appear burned in. We noticed that above the stars (towards the ball) there are smaller light linear 5 point stars- one above each of the larger stars, and difficult to see. The handle has a plant-type linear carving with offset branching and side branches? On each side that could have been burned in. The handle also has chamfered edges on the upper handle Pic. #5, and two carved raised bands above the area a hand would grip. Near the top of the handle my Son was able to see what appears to be small pencil inscriptions: H P. And below that J. Hard to tell if it is a “J”. And a date 10/13/23 (see photos #11 & #12). The ball has scarce tiny remnants of red paint and some flecks of turquoise-green, and a lime green and flecks of the turquoise-green at top of the handle where the “crest” meets the ball. There is a faint reddish cast on the burl ball visible in certain light. Ball 3″ X 3.5″. Weight 1 pound 5.2 ounces. CONDITION: Good Antique Used Condition. Small nicks and surface splits from Age and Use, as would be expected. Old tiny holes in burl ball, inactive. Antique Rare Indian Silver Pepper Pot Ball With Bird Feet By Oomersi Mawji

Made by the renowned silversmith Oomersi Mawji. Lovely rich repousse decoration in ball form sitting on 3 bird feet. The decoration is nice and crisp with no worn areas but the top is ever so slightly pushed in and a slight dent to the side on the top see photos. Has the OM mark on the bottom.
